This tournament began in 2012 and was renamed the Jeff Young Memorial Muskie Shootout in 2022. Jeff was an irreplaceable member of the Brainerd Lakes Chapter, contributing to nearly every aspect of the organization until his passing in 2021. He was also instrumental in getting this tournament off the ground.
Jeff had a deep passion for introducing youth to fishing and the outdoors. In his honor, a portion of the tournament proceeds is used each year to provide a lifetime fishing license to a youth during our annual membership drive.
That commitment to youth continues through Jeff’s family and J3 Tackle, who also sponsor a lifetime fishing license giveaway at our annual banquet—helping carry on his legacy by inspiring the next generation of anglers.
