Brainerd Lakes Chapter of
2022 Youth Event
July 31st, 2022
Thank you to all that attended and to those that helped to make this event possible!
2022 Event Recap
We held our annual Youth Day at Lum Park in Brainerd on Sunday July 31st, and had a great time! There were 63 kids in attendance, and every kid went home with a prize. Things like water and outdoor toys were given out, as well as a bunch of brand new fishing rods. Every kid also got to take home a bag of new tackle and other fishing essentials to add to their tackle boxes.
Kids had the opportunity to visit 8 learning stations, where they participated in knot tying, lure making, a craft station, learned about life cycles and food chains, and had minnow races. We were also joined by Katie from the Long Lake Conservation Center in Aitkin County who taught kids about different types of aquatic invertebrates that can be found in a water ecosystem. The MN DNR was also there teaching kids about fish anatomy. The station that stole the show was the LUNDker Lake, where children participated in a fishing contest, learning how to cast fishing rods, catching fish and even the heartbreak of when a big one gets off.
A huge round of applause for our Youth Director, Jordan Moss, and his family for putting on this great event. Thank you’s go out to Dave Lockwood with the MN DNR and Katie from the Long Lake Conservation Center. We would also like to thank the Pillager Fishing Team for sending over some great volunteers to help out at our stations. Just like with everything we do, our volunteers from the chapter that helped out before and during the event are much appreciated - without their help, it would be hard to make great events like these possible!
**If you, or anyone you know, is interested in participating in volunteer opportunities like these, talk to a board member! We’d be happy to have you join us!**
